The Spokane Area Economic Development Council announced today that MatriCal, Inc., a biotechnology instrumentation firm, will relocate its headquarters and open a manufacturing facility in Spokane. The company expects to bring 100 new jobs to the Spokane region within the next three years.
“Spokane’s low business costs and research community make it an ideal location for our business,” said Kevin Oldenburg, Ph.D. President and Founder of MatriCal. “Spokane’s exceptional quality of life – low cost of living, family-oriented lifestyle, and outdoor activities – is also very attractive.”
The EDC has been assisting MatriCal with their relocation decision throughout this past year. Dr. Oldenburg said a site visit to the area coordinated by the Economic Development Council in May contributed significantly to their final decision to relocate to the Spokane region.
“The EDC introduced us to industry contacts, toured us around the community, and provided us with detailed information on business costs and local workforce. They gave us solid proof that Spokane was the place our business needed to be,” Dr. Oldenburg said.
MatriCal, Inc. which is currently headquartered in Chadds Ford, Pa., considered a number of West Coast locations before deciding on Spokane, including sites in Oregon and California.
“We are excited MatriCal has chosen the Spokane region for their new headquarters,” said Mark Turner, Economic Development Council President and CEO. “We believe the region is strongly positioned to attract biotechnology companies and we expect to see continued development of this industry cluster over the next several years.”
MatriCal will be hiring for a number of professional and technical positions, including electrical engineers, mechanical engineers, programmers, and biochemists. Interested applicants should send resumes to MatriCal, Inc., Attn: Kevin R. Oldenburg, 6 LaFayette Place, Chadds Ford, PA 19317.
Incorporated as a company in early 2000, MatriCal develops customized engineering and biotechnology instrumentation products for the pharmaceutical industry. The company was co-founded by Kevin Oldenburg, Ph.D. after he left his position as Director of Biomolecular Screening and Leads Discovery at DuPont Pharmaceuticals.
